Engineering college bags NSS awards
Kozhikode: The Government Engineering College, Kozhikode, bagged all the four Technical Cell National Service Scheme awards of the State Technical Education Department. Besides the Best Unit Award, college NSS Programme Officer Abid Tharavattath was adjudged the best Programme Officer, P. Aparna the best volunteer, and Ayisha Rizana the top-scorer in the engineering stream.
The awards will be given away at the annual meet of the NSS Technical Cell to be held at P.A. Azeez College of Engineering and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, on Saturday.
The activities carried out by the NSS unit of the college included ‘My birthday an earth day' in which each volunteer celebrated his/her birthday by planting trees; ‘One rupee per day' project to offer a helping hand to indigent people undergoing treatment; ‘Aksharadeepam' to empower rural and school libraries; ‘Sahavaasikkoru Veedu' to provide homes to the economically weaker sections of society; and ‘Najangal Vyathyastharanu,' a mass blood-donation campaign.
The unit would focus more on exploring the role of engineers in social service, Mr. Tharavattath said in a press release here.
